Bruce Caton
Bruce Caton was born in Pensacola and grew up in East Hill. His professional teaching career began at age 19 at the Grand Hotel in Point Clear, Alabama. Now Director and Head Pro at Roger Scott Tennis Center, he is a popular instructor with all ages and levels of players.
When asked if he has anything left to learn about the game, Caton replied, “Absolutely. If you ever get to the point you think you know it all, either as a player or a teacher, your game suffers and much of the fun can be lost. He plays USTA league tennis locally on both an adult and senior 4.5 men’s team. Bruce is very proud of the “2007 Florida Tennis Facility of the Year” awarded to Roger Scott Tennis Center. To Caton, it is as satisfying as any individual trophy he has taken home, especially as the management of the site is accomplished through teamwork. Work began on the new clay courts at Roger Scott in June of this year, with an anticipated completion date in December. “This will give us 30 courts, 18 hard and 12 clay, which will open the door for Pensacola to host more major national events. Locally, the number of junior players is steadily increasing, and more players are entering at the ‘fun level’, which makes the future of tennis in Pensacola very bright.”
