Cherrie Rankin
Cherrie was born and raised in Pensacola where she met Bill, a New Jersey native, who at the time was a Marine Pilot/Instructor. Both went to colleges in San Diego and returned to Pensacola after Bill finished law school. Cherrie spent most of her life teaching ballet. She continued dancing and teaching while working at Sacred Heart Hospital as a registered nurse in the operating room. The culmination of her dancing career was a partnership in the Dance Centre in downtown Pensacola. The Dance Centre spun off the highly successful professional First City Dance Theatre. Cherrie choreographed for The Dance Centre as well as a Ronnie Milsap tour show. She also choreographed several annual state, “Florida Junior Miss Pageants (with fellow tennis buddy Janis Bond).”
Tennis came late in Cherrie’s life, as did her two boys, Max and Zac. So, at 471/2 she decided to take up the sport. It was love at first serve. Cherrie has been active in the GPLTL for 19yrs. serving as president and rules chairman. And, as her understanding and generous husband would say, “she has loved and financially supported many pros in town.”
